Why are many commuters facing issues now at Tambaram Sanatorium in south Chennai?

In Chennai, Tambaram sanatorium bus terminus is being used by many commuters these days is well known. The commuters at this bus terminus are finding it very difficult now for this reason.
Escalator at the bus stop has stopped working and due to this reason thousands of commuters who use the bus stop are at the receiving end now. Truth is that people were affected more in the festival season. Some time back, this bus stand was announced as a special bus terminal for special buses leaving to delta districts in Tami Nadu.
Just 4 years back, the escalator located in the main junction in Tambaram Sanatorium was inaugurated and since then it has been used by many people.
It is worth mentioning that the escalator was used by those who worked in MEPZ and by those who come to Tambaram court and Revenue office. Ahead of Deepavali festival, many have been visiting this place for shopping purposes.
The bus terminus at Tambaram Sanatorium had witnessed sensational increase in the number of passengers ever since it was announced that this bus terminus would be a special bus terminus for long distance buses leaving to Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Chidambaram etc.
As the escalator here has stopped functioning, thousands of people have been using the staircase only and people have been finding it very difficult when they have to carry heavy luggage along with them. The importance of escalator is felt more now because more passengers have been coming to this bus terminus to go to other places.
It was later mentioned by Mr. P. Viswanathan, convenor, Chitlapakkam Residents Association that the issue must be sorted out as soon as possible for the sake of the public. The shocking truth is that the majority of the commuters were not able to climb the staircase and were asking for help from others.
