From 2020 onwards, Covid-19 infection pandemic has been deadly across the globe. Now, cases of Nipah virus have been slowly increasing. In this scenario, Dr. Jacob john, virologist wants the Union government to undertake a study to know about unrecognised cluster deaths in the area between West Bengal and Kerala. He spoke about how currently there is no vaccine available to treat Nipah virus that is more deadly.
Dr. Jacob John later explained about how through breathing Covid-19 virus would be transmitted and how Nipah virus could spread through saliva, nasal droppings, blood etc. Important piece of information is that Nipah is from the negative strand RNA virus family and hence Covid vaccines would not be effective for Nipah virus. The symptoms of both Nipah virus as well as Coronavirus are similar.
It is learnt that the saliva of fruit eating bats causes Nipah virus and was found in Indonesia in the mid nineties of the last century. Information is that a volcanic eruption in Indonesia resulted in fumes and smoke and this drove away the fruit eating bats to countries like Singapore, Bangladesh and West Bengal in India etc. He concluded that the government must find out how the Nipah virus moved from West Bengal to Kerala.
