In Chennai, two hostels for the sake of working women to be constructed

Many women come to Chennai from other places for the sake of their jobs. They find it difficult to get a place to stay. This issue would not be there for the working women in Chennai in the future. The news is that GCC would soon be constructing 2 working women�s hostels at 2 locations in Chennai by utilising the Nirbhaya Funds meant for erecting smart poles.
It was mentioned by an officer belonging to GCC that the civic body had recently cancelled the smart poles project that was being implemented under Nirbhaya Funds for the sake of women�s safety in Chennai. He shed light on how the smart pole project was about to be implemented at a cost of Rs 120 crores but was cancelled and how the funds would now be used for women�s hostels. It is learnt that the sites for constructing new women�s hostels are being identified. After identification of the sites, other works such as designing and tendering would begin.
In more than 50 locations in the Chennai city, GCC runs shelters for the homeless is known. It is now said that once the proposal of hostels for working women�s take shape then this would be the first working hostel managed by the civic body.
In Chennai, smart poles have been making their presence felt at many places and these poles have been used by the traffic police to monitor traffic violations. It is superb to note that few smart poles have weather systems and rain gauges and they would continue to function. The poles present at the Chennai city main roads have cameras fixed on them to monitor the traffic signals. The TN state as well as central government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 425 crores to the civic body under Nirbhaya Funds to implement women safety projects.
