Many of us would have been familiar with an eye issue called Madras Eye. This eye infection would make the eyes turn reddish plus would lead to watery discharges etc. It is also known as conjunctivitis. The latest statement from the highly popular Rajan Eye Care Hospitals in Chennai is that the conjunctivitis could be due to Coronavirus infection also.

It is now brought to light that in the last one week 5 out of 10 patients screened for Madras Eye at this hospital were also Coronavirus positive.

The eye doctors were of the view that this conjunctivitis previously used to be a seasonal issue but now it is seen throughout the year. They added that the symptoms of viral conjunctivitis include red eyes, sore throat and fever etc. It is worthy to note that this eye infection spreads from a droplet source or aerosol spread and it could spread from one person to another person. Infection can also spread when the person comes in contact with the surface that has been infected.

It has been finally mentioned by the Rajan Eye Care Hospital that Covid-19 also spreads from droplet source but would manifest as respiratory symptoms like breathlessness etc and that was unlike conjunctivitis.
