For the sake of COVID patients, SMCH in Chennai adds 1250 more beds now

The north Chennai based Stanley Medical College and Hospital or SMCH has caught the attention of many now as it has added as many as 1250 beds for the Coronavirus patients. Point is that there would be 900 beds with oxygen supply for these patients with breathing issues. Over three blocks, SMCH already has 1200 beds for Covid-19 patients are known.

The new trauma block and the super speciality block at SMCH would have the additional beds for Covid-19 patients.  It is now said that arrangements for installation of oxygen points plus construction of toilets and other facilities have been going on now at full speeds. Under the purview of the hospital, there are 4 Covid-19 Care Centre and 4 screening centres.

It was mentioned by the dean of SMCH, Dr. P. Balaji that a central core management committee headed by the director of surgical gastroenterology Dr. Jeswanth and various heads of departments have been constituted. He added that professors, assistant professors and associate professors would work in 3 shifts for the sake of providing 24hour fast response. Point is that they would not be involved in the patient treatment but in monitoring various activities involved in the effective management of Coronavirus patients. Coordination with 108 ambulance services would be carried out by the team as a part of the management. By this, they would help the sick critical patients to get the supply of oxygen immediately.
