It is learnt that AICTE or All India Council for Technical Education has made further amendments to its ODL or Open and Distance Learning Education and Online New Education Guidelines 2021. Recently, the guidelines for the above mentioned were released and it caught the attention of many is known.

Point to be noted is that before the new guidelines the online distance education mode was only for the limited programmes in few institutions. It is now revealed that the educational institutions could offer many full-fledged courses through online mode. Sounds fantastic right!!

Permission has been given to all higher educational institutions such as standalone institutions, institutions deemed to be universities and universities for conducting ODL and online courses etc until now.

From now on, only those institutions with NAAC score of 3.26 or ranked in the top 100 in the university category of NIRF or National institutional Ranking Framework would be allowed to start full-fledged ODL courses or online courses in the field of management and allied areas, computer applications, AI, logistics, travel and tourism without prior approval of the council.

Truth is that earlier the institutions that have been present for a minimum of 5 years were given permission to start ODL courses.

As per the amended guidelines, those universities that and atleast 2 batches passed out could introduce the programmes. Registration on AICTE portal must be carried out by these institutions and annually submit all relevant data about the faculty, students and affidavit. Information is that enrolment of three times the sanctioned intake of specific programmes in conventional or regular mode was possible for an institute and this was in the past. It is now brought out that the approved intake for online courses and ODL must get permission from UGC for intake specifications from time to time.
