The class 12 board examinations have been postponed and this would be delaying admissions of students to various engineering, arts and sciences colleges in TN.
In the normal situation, the results of class 12 board exams would be announced in June and higher education institution admission would begin from July. In 2020, due to the lock down to contain Coronavirus infection, the class 12 results were declared only in the middle of the July month and admissions to higher education institutions began in August.
Depending on the pandemic situation, the TN government would be conducting board exams for class 12 in the month of June 2021. This was mentioned by a senior officer from the school education department. He added that even if the board exams were conducted in June result declaration would take place atleast 2 months of time. Only by August, the students would be getting their mark sheets. The admission to the colleges in TN would start only in September or in October months.
It is worthy to note that the students would need atleast 15 days of physical class sessions for revision before the board exams take place. Mr. Pasupathy, AUT president expressed his views and spoke about how students especially freshers need atleast 200 days of classes to cover all the portions.
He highlighted that if the admissions process starts by September then the students would get just 150 days of physical classes. It would not be sufficient to complete the syllabus and it would make both students and teachers stressed. Mr. Pasupathy later hinted about the authorities extending or altering academic sessions by cancelling summer vacations. By this, the portions would be completed without any special or additional classes.
Parents could get stressed due to the delay in conducting class 12 board exams. This was according to Mr. S. Arumainathan, president, TNPTA.
