Cheques of 8 banks to be invalid from 1st April? - Central Government

Following the merger of some of the public sector banks, it has been announced that the cheque books of these banks will be INVALID from 1st April.

Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank are merged with Bank of Baroda.

Corporation Bank and Andhra Bank have merged with the Union Bank of India.

The Oriental Bank of Commerce and Unite Bank have merged with Punjab National Bank.

Syndicate bank merged with Canara Bank and Allahabad Bank has merged with Indian Bank.

Still, until now, the cheques of the above old banks were valid. An announcement was also made in this regard that these cheques will be withdrawn gradually and only the cheques of the new bank after the merger would be valid.

In the above scenario, the central government has come up with an announcement that the cheque books of 8 banks WILL NOT BE VALID FROM 1ST APRIL!

So, the savings bank account holders of the above banks have been intimated to obtain the new cheque books after the merger! In case some account holders had already received new cheque books, they are also advised to surrender the same and get the new cheque books after the merger.
