Colleges and universities in Chennai and in TN to be shut down now - Hereafter, only online classes

On Monday, a Government Order or GO was issued by the TN government.
According to the Government Order, there has been an increase in the spread of Coronavirus infection especially in the educational institutions. It added that a meeting was held with the VC�s of all the universities under the aegis of Higher Education Department, Directorate of Technical Education and Directorate of Collegiate Education on Wednesday regarding the situation and plan for the academic year was discussed. It was clear that 80percent of the syllabus has been covered till now.
The practical classes and examinations have been going on for the science group students. Point is that the Director of Public Health and preventive Medicine has suggested that reports were emerging on clusters from colleges and hostels. The GO then mentioned that considering trends in many states the clusters have the potential to spread the infection in their place of residence and in the surrounding community.
After careful examination of the situation, the Higher Education Department had given orders to all the higher educational institutions under the control of government and deemed universities to conduct online classes from 23rd of March 2021.The order also highlighted that the practical classes and examinations for all science, engineering and polytechnic students must be completed before 31st of March 2021 for the first semester students especially. The semester examinations would be conducted online for the students. The decision by the TN government was a good move and this was as per Mr. N. Pasupathy, president, AUT.
