The Covid-19 cases have been increasing day by day in Chennai and in various districts like Coimbatore, Chengalpet, Tiruvallur, Tirupur etc. From these districts, every day atleast 5 to 10 Covid-19 clusters get reported. This was brought out by the health secretary, Mr. J. Radhakrishnan. He made his presence felt at the important Parrys bus stand yesterday along with some officials belonging to GCC.

It must be noted that in TN now if 100 people get tested then there is about 2% positivity rate. Truth is that just 10 days back the situation was normal and the positivity rate was less than 1%. The testing for Covid-19 infection has been increased in Chennai and in TN now.

It is learnt that randomly 20 persons get picked and tested for the infection. Just recently, 40 people belonging to 3 branches of a particular company tested positive for Coronavirus. This grabbed many eyeballs. Now, from this company as many as 364 employees were tested for the deadly infection.  Mr. Radhakrishnan pointed out that one infected person might have gone to 3 branches of the company and would have spread the infection to others.

It is important to note that those persons who have fever must not come to the office and even if they come thermal screening must be done. Persons detected with fever must be sent back home immediately.

Localities like Perambur, Vanagaram and Perungudi had Covid clusters on 12th March and now localities like Madipakkam, T. Nagar and Mylapore have clusters. The good news is that places like Tondiarpet, Royapuram etc that had clusters in the past do not have any Covid cluster now.

The number of Covid-19 cases could be brought down only with the cooperation of the public. Point is that SOPs must be followed in all political and non-political meetings. In case of any violation, the health department would monitor and take action etc. By Monday, 3.78lakh doses are expected from the Union Health Ministry and at present there are 14 lakh doses in stock with the government.

It is learnt that a request was made to the Centre for vaccinating those above 18 years of age with co-morbid conditions plus those above 50.Recently, in Thanjavur, as many as 201 persons including students and staffs belonging to 11 schools and 4 colleges have tested Covid-19 positive. It was brought out by the Thanjavur district collector that all students were being tested in the schools that reported 2 or 3 cases. He shed light on the presence of 3 or more cases reported from 11 schools and from 3 colleges in the Thanjavur district.

A total of 7727 students, staff and their contacts have been tested and as many as 201 have tested positive for Coronavirus infection.
