For pursuing BSc in Programming and Data science, meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds would be provided with merit cum means scholarship programme or V PROPEL. For this, IIT-M would join hands with Verizon India and IT Company.  Sounds fantastic isnt it!!

It is learnt that those students whose annual family income is below one lakh would be supported by this V PROPEL. For 4 academic terms, the selected students would get financial assistance. In the year 2020, IIT- M grabbed many eyeballs when it launched the first of its kind BSc in programming and data science for the students. The main objective behind this is to eliminate barriers of age, discipline, geographic location and provide access to curriculum to aspirants in programming and data science.  Through this course, the learners would be able to pursue a UG degree or a diploma from IIT-M regardless of age, location and academic background etc, This was according to some sources belonging to IITM.

Truth is that the scholarships would give preference to meritorious women students and those with disabilities etc. The superb piece of information is that Verizon India would be the first corporate to partner with IITM to support this initiative. It is worthy to note that this unique virtual learning programme would be offered in 3 stages namely foundation level, diploma level and degree level.

Professor Mahesh Panchagnula, Dean (Alumni and Corporate Relations) IIT-M appreciated Verizon India in supporting this initiative. He explained that this corporate company has been a long term supporter of the IIT-M initiative of helping deserving students.

As per US Bureau of Labour Statistics, data science is one of the fastest growing sectors and by the year 2026 this course would create 11.5million jobs. By 2022, data analysts and scientists would be the most emerging job roles across the world and this was predicted by the World Economic Forum.
