In TN, both private and government a/c buses are allowed to operate now

The Coronavirus cases have been decreasing in the state of TN. Now, the TN state government has allowed the operation of air-conditioned buses belonging to both private operators as well as of Transport Corporations. This news would bring huge happiness to many air-conditioned buses operators in TN.

It is worthy to note that those with co-morbid conditions and those above the age of 65 would not be allowed to travel in these buses.

Under Disaster management Act 2005, an order was issued by Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, chief secretary and it was stated in the order that the TN government has permitted all the TN state transport undertakings and private bus operators to operate buses with air-conditioned facilities.

This would also include those buses operated and engaged by various industries in transporting their employees and schools/colleges engaging buses to transport their students with air-conditioners at the earliest. It is well known to us that the operation of a/c buses was stopped in TN from 25th March onwards in 2020 due to lockdown imposed to contain Covid-19 infection pandemic.

In September 2020, normal bus services resumed in TN but not the operation of a/c bus services. This made the transport corporations and private a/c bus operators to request the TN government to allow the operation of air-conditioned buses. It must be noted that a/c fights and a/c railway coaches have been allowed to operate at that time. A fall in the revenue was complained by the TN transport corporations due to non-operation of 702 a/c buses.
