In Chennai and in Tamil Nadu , COVID test positivity rate or TPR has come down.

On Friday, Tamil Nadu had 790 fresh or new Covid-19 cases and 8 persons passed away due to this infection. More than 8lakhs have been affected by this deadly infection in Tamil Nadu  till now. As many as 7432 persons are now under treatment.

It was brought out by the health secretary Mr. J. Radhakrishnan that there were clear epidemiological indications on the falling infection rate in Tamil Nadu . Union health minister Mr. Harsh Vardhan has been informed about this decrease in the infection by the health secretary of Tamil Nadu . The state of Tamil Nadu  has been witnessing a clear reduction in the Covid-19 test positivity rates or TPR now.

Truth is that in the first week of December the average positivity rate was hovering around 2% and now it has come down to 1.4% in the last week of time. In September, the doubling time was 50 days and now it has gone to 593 days. In September the Covid-19 infection was at its peak and this is well known to us.

There are now less than 50% occupancy in the hospitals in Tamil Nadu  due to Coronavirus infection. The daily average cases and number of deaths have also decreased and this was as per the statistics from the Covid registry.

From 27th of November till 3rd of December, the average number of daily cases was 1427 and from 4th December onwards the daily average dropped to 1297. The important piece of information is that in the last week of December the state of Tamil Nadu reported an average of 986 fresh cases per day. In the first week of January, the average daily cases have further dropped to 853.

High recovery rate and low mortality rate in Tamil Nadu:

Mr. Radhakrishan then mentioned that Tamil Nadu has managed to keep the recovery rate high and mortality rate low. He added that in Tamil Nadu in the first week of December there was an average of 15 deaths every day and in the first week of January, 11 deaths were reported every day.

The success in controlling Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu was due to various factors like fever surveillance, early treatment etc.

More than 1.43 crores tested in Tamil Nadu:

It is now confirmed that since the month of February Tamil Nadu has tested more than 1.43 crores of people and 169,594 tests per million people have been conducted in Tamil Nadu. In Tamil Nadu, in the last 24 hours, as many as 897 people have been discharged and the recovery rate is 98 percent.
