Passengers who are asymptomatic and those who want to get themselves tested for Covid-19 infection would be able to use the new Covid-19 testing facility at the Chennai airport. The sources have confirmed that the new facility for testing would be opened for the passengers in the next week. The laboratory has been in the works for some time now. This was according to some officials belonging to AAI. Information gathered is that arrangements are being made now as per the discussions. The lab that would start functioning from next Monday would be opened for a time of one year. Based on the instructions from the government, prices for the tests would be fixed.
It is known that those passengers who have been arriving at Chennai airport have been carrying Covid-19 negative certificates along with them in the last few months.
State government collecting samples:
Recently, a new mutant strain has emerged from the UK and this has resulted in the temporary suspension of flights. Truth is that the TN state government has been collecting samples from the passengers. An official spoke about how the lab was planned earlier and how it has become important now. He added that those asymptomatic passengers or those who want to get tested (for not having a Covid-19 negative certificate) could get tested in the lab at the airport. There is a place available in the airport where the passengers can isolate themselves till they receive their certificates.
Nearly, 200 passengers have arrived from the United Kingdom or UK in the last week. Important piece of information is that the flights have been suspended from 22nd December to 31st December 2020.
