The news that has emerged out now is that the Torrent Gas Chennai Private Limited would be investing a mammoth amount of Rs 5000 crores for establishing a city gas distribution network in Chennai and in Tiruvallur.
The company has signed MoU with the government and it would develop infrastructure to provide retail compressed natural gas or CNG to the automobiles and piped gas supply to the households and industries. In Chennai and in Tiruvallur districts, pipelines and other infrastructure would be created by this company. An area of 3569 sq km would be covered for the purpose of supplying piped natural gas to the homes, industries and many commercial establishments. Infrastructure would be set up to dispense CNG to automobiles also.
In the first phase 1 plan of the infrastructure roll out, as many as 30 CNG stations would be commissioned in Chennai and in Tiruvallur in the last quarter of the current financial year.
It must be noted that the CM of TN, Mr. E. Palanisamy also laid the foundation stone for the Torrent Gas Project to establish City Gas Distribution Network in Thirumarugal in Nagapattinam district at an amount of Rs 600 crores. In the global investors meet in 2019, the MoU for this project was signed is well known.
