Southern Railway Official: 40 additional suburban electric trains

An official of the Southern Railways has informed that 40 additional trains will be pressed into service in the suburban routes in the Chennai Metro City.
Presently, in the prevailing lockdown imposition as a preventive measure against the raging coronavirus pandemic, for the facility of the central & state Government Employees and the employees working in the essential sectors organisations, 204 special trains are being operated in the suburban routes.
In this situation, Southern |Railways have now decided to operate 40 additional trains in the suburban routes in the Chennai Metro City.
An official from the Southern Railways shared in this regard:
"In the 1st Phase, 150 trains were operated for the central government officials and Grade-1employees. Subsequently, the number of trains operated was increased to 204. Presently, as the number of passengers is on the increasing trend, it has been planned to operate additional trains to keep adherence to the social distancing norm.
On this accord, 40 additional trains are being operated for the present total of 244 trains in operation. Further, from the suburban localities of the Chennai Metro City such as Avadi, Gummidipundi, Velacherry, Chingleput, and Tambaram, trains are being operated from the Chennai MGR Central Railway Station and Egmore Station being operated, these electric trains will now be operated up to Tiruthani.
The time-table for this extended operation will be officially announced later."
