The Minister for Higher Education of the State Government of Tamil Nadu, K. P. Anbazhagan has informed that the State Government of Tamil Nadu has decided that there is no necessity for the Special Status for Anna University.
The Central Government has introduced a new scheme whereby it will accord special status to the prominent academic institutions in the country and thereby provide additional financial assistance.
The Department of the Higher Education of the State Government of Tamil Nadu and Anna University jointly applied for this scheme. The centra government accepted the application. However, citing the reasons of a shortage of finance and other political reasons, the Department of Higher Education of the State Government of Tami Nadu has been hesitating on this issue.
It has been explained for this decision that the State Government of Tamil Nadu feels that once Special status is given, the present rules and regulations of the existing quota system would be affected!
