Residents of containment zones in Chennai struggle for getting vegetables, medicines etc

In several localities in Chennai, inside the containment areas, life for the people has become very difficult. People are left to fend for themselves. There is a huge struggle in getting vegetables, medicines and other essentials for the people in the containment zones.
According to a resident belonging to Motilal Street in T. Nagar, for the past several days the residents were unable to go out even for getting rations. He added that the authorities have been very strict and they were not allowing the residents to go out. It is common knowledge that this street in T. Nagar was announced as a containment area on 28th May. Previously, a vegetable vendor was allowed by the GCC to sell vegetables for the residents inside this street. He vacated the spot after selling vegetables for a day.
It was later brought to light by the resident that the GCC officials provided some phone numbers to the residents on the first day for contacting them for help. The residents were surprised to see the number connected to a shop in T. Nagar.
Lack of manpower has been cited as the main reason for not providing help to these residents. The residents were made to live with the food items that they have stocked before the restrictions. The GCC has been conducting medical camps in this street in T. Nagar even though they had left the residents without essentials.
