South Chennai has many lockdown violators than north Chennai

There is a public perception that the residents belonging to posh south Chennai localities are more law following people when compared to those belonging to north Chennai localities. The data from the traffic police has shown differently.

It has been revealed by the data that between 1st June till 19th June south Chennai had more lockdown violators than north Chennai.

Information gathered is there were more violations registered in south Chennai comprising places like Adyar, Guindy, ECR, Velachery etc. As many as 32,575 cases of violations were reported from south Chennai and a fine amount of Rs 1.62 crores has been collected from the violators. In north Chennai, there were as many as 14,179 violations and Rs 70 lakhs have been collected as a fine amount. There were as many as 5359 cases booked against the bikes in south Chennai when compared to 1911 cases in north Chennai.

Busy places like T. Nagar, Adyar, ECR, Tambaram etc of south Chennai had a high number of violations. In these places there is better enforcement and more check posts present is a known fact. Many remained in their homes in Royapuram/ Tondiarpet etc in north Chennai due to high number of Coronavirus positive cases and this has resulted in less number of violations here.

It is important to note that the number of cars violating the rules in north Chennai was 50 and in south Chennai was 648. In north Chennai, there were 758 cases registered against autos and in south Chennai 749 cases were registered against autos. 

Many walked to nearby markets in north Chennai whereas in south Chennai many took their vehicles in search of better shops and for better quality products. As many as 13,806 violations were booked in western Chennai places like Anna Nagar, Koyambedu and Arumbakkam etc and 16,193 violation cases were registered from east Chennai places.
