The usually bustling Chennai Metro City wore a completely deserted look since yesterday (Friday, 19th June) when the 100% lockdown imposition commenced for 4 districts. The roads and streets wore a deserted look as very few people moved around!

100% Lockdown has been imposed in the Chennai district under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Police and the other districts of Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram from yesterday (19th June) for 12 days).

With the 100% lockdown, the entire Chennai Metro City seemed to be at a standstill and woe a deserted look. The traffic was severely regulated in 280 major roads including Anna Salai, Kamarajar Salai, and Velacherry-Tambaram High Road.

The Police seized the vehicles - 2000 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers - violating the lockdown and have registered over 2400 cases.

Setting up barriers in large numbers across the busy roads/streets, the police took up stringent testing/monitoring of the traffic. All the flyovers and bridges linking major roads were closed.

Most of the roads remained deserted with hardly any human traffic! The major Chennai Metro City Commercial Centres including T Nagar, Purasawalkam, Anna Nagar, Ritchie Street, and Kothawal Chavadi remained closed.

Though the vegetable shops, petrol bunks were allowed to be open from 6.00 AM to 2.00 PM, the Police observed that the public did not show much interest in moving out! Thus, all the roads remained almost empty.

It may be remarked that the entire Chennai Metro City folded up inside residences!
