Just before the lockdown in Chennai from 19th June, thousands have left to other places

Thousands of people began to leave the Chennai city on Wednesday inspite of the fact that the police department of Chengalpet and Kancheepuram had set up many checkpoints in their districts.

It must be taken into account that the neighbouring district police have stopped many and sent them back to Chennai. The people wanted to go to their native places as Chennai is set to enter a 12 day total lockdown to contain Coronavirus infection. Many were seen going to other districts to buy liquor as it would not be available in Chennai.

It is known that there would be complete lockdown in Chennai city from 19th June till 30th June 2020. Ever since it was announced that Chennai would have a complete lockdown from 19th June many people have started going to other districts.

As per a police official, it was clear that only those vehicles with e-pass were allowed while the rest were sent back. Checking booths have been installed at every taluks in Kancheepuram and Chenglapet to stop the people enter the districts through interior roads. In every checkpoint, hundreds of policemen, revenue officials and health stafs were deployed. Chennai residents who wanted to stock up liquor bottles were sent away by the police personnel.
