In the initial stages of Coronavirus pandemic, Thiru Vi- Ka- Nagar in Chennai grabbed many eyeballs as it had a large number of Coronavirus positive cases and the zone was ranked one. Currently, this zone stands at 6th position in the number of positive cases. It is now said that by controlling the number of positive cases this zone has shown the way for the other zones to follow.

How it all happened:
The decrease in the Coronavirus cases in this zone has been possible by the huge efforts taken by IAS officer Mr. Arun Thamburaj and his team members. Micro level management was given importance in this zone. Houses that had positive cases were barricaded and volunteers helped the families with supplies.

It was later revealed by an officer that they stopped the people from going to work from containment streets when they began working in the month of May. There was immediate barricading of houses in this zone. Truth is WhatsApp groups of officials of all line departments were formed at the ward level. By this, the needs of the residents were met easily. Creating awareness about the prevention of Coronavirus was also carried out by the team and they spoke to the Corona patients and their neighbours.

The members of the team spent time with the patients and their family persons over phone to make sure everything was going well. As per an animator belonging to the team, everything from water supply to basic needs have been ensured for their homes. He explained about how the team had made sure that the concerned officials have delivered the required services to the homes of Coronavirus positive patients.

According to an official of the corporation, there is still a long way to go for this zone to reach zero cases. He shed light on how compliance to norms like wearing facemasks was not there.
