Bicycles are the best mode of transport for the people for maintaining social distancing during commuting.
It is known that the cycle sharing project for GCC has been operated by SmartBike Mobility. The latest news is this cycle sharing project has started rent-a-cycle services at 10 locations in Chennai. The main objective behind this was to promote bicycling as the mode of transport in this Coronavirus pandemic situation.
Vice president (Marketing), SmartBike Mobility, Mr. Ranjith Srivatsava, expressed his views. He explained how social distancing would be possible with these smart bikes. He threw light on how since 8th June smart bike services have been started for the residents at 10 locations with 100 bicycles. He hinted that the remaining 69 smart bike docking stations would be opened in a phased manner.
It must be noted that before the lockdown the patronage in Chennai was good and since the launch, 1/26 lakh rides were done. Fact is before the lockdown on the weekdays there used to be 500 to 600 takes and on the weekends there used to be 900 to1000 takers. The people in Chennai have been fighting Coronavirus and this has resulted in low patronage now.
Across the world, people prefer traveling by bicycle instead of a public mode of transport like buses, trains, etc. The reason for this was due to the fact that traveling by bicycle is the best way for maintaining social distancing. It is important to mention here that just one person could travel on the bicycle.
