New data from GCC shows high mortality rate due to Coronavirus

There are allegations regarding under-reporting of deaths due to Coronavirus infection in Chennai. Now, an increase in the mortality rate has been shown by the latest data released by the GCC.

As on Wednesday, the mortality rate in Chennai was exactly at 1% and this was as per the Chennai Corporation data. Earlier the mortality rate was hovering around 0.7 percent and 0.8 percent.

It has been revealed that out of a total of 25,937 Coronavirus positive cases reported till now in the Chennai city as many as 260 have died. The Chennai city�s mortality rate would increase as the DPH has decided to cross verify the deaths.

At present, there is a slump in the overall recovery rate due to a surge in the Coronavirus cases. Information collected is on Wednesday alone as many as 12,591 have recovered. The recovery rate is now at 48.4%. On 7th June, the recovery rate was 50.4% and on 6th June it was 51.8%. The highest number of deaths has been reported from north Chennai based Royapuram zone among 15 zones belonging to Chennai. The total number of deaths is 52 until now. There were as many as 43 deaths in the Thiru -Vi- ka Nagar and Teynampet zone had 37 deaths.

There were many Coronavirus patients who passed away within a short time after getting admitted to the hospitals in Chennai city and this was around 30%. An official belonging to the Chennai Corporation was of the view that many asymptomatic patients turned critical even before they could know about their health condition.
