Around 10,000 Chennai teachers roped as counselling professionals for COVID-19 patients

The TN government had cancelled the SSLC examinations for the students now. In this situation, school teachers do not have any other work.
In Chennai city, government school teachers would be doing the work of counselling professionals for COVID-19 patients and for the public to solve issues related to Coronavirus. This order was issued by the school education department on Wednesday and it surprised many teachers belonging to both government and government-aided schools in TN.
Without the students, the teachers do not have any work in government schools in TN. Hence, the teachers were asked to report to the respective educational zonal office. This was according to a senior official belonging to the school education department. He then spoke about how more than 30 teachers would be deployed in each zone to attend calls and give counselling not only to Coronavirus patients but also clear the doubts of the public regarding Coronavirus. The teachers would be working on a shift basis from 8 am to 2 pm and from 2 pm to 8 pm every day.
The teachers who have been involved in answer sheets correction of class 12 students would be exempted from this counselling work. It is important to note that on rotation basis 10,000 teachers would be involved as of now. The teachers for counselling work would have to attend small training sessions.
The training would not be a big problem for the teachers because most of the teachers have already helped the police personnel in carrying out field works like creating awareness among people to protect themselves from Coronavirus attack. Information is counselling work of the teachers includes creating awareness among people about the implication of the pandemic, to impart knowledge of social distancing and reminding the public about the penalty for not wearing facemasks etc.
