On Wednesday, 10th June 2020, chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami approved the recruitment of over 2800 medical professionals to support the fight against Coronavirus infection. The appointment of the medical professionals has been carried out at a time when Coronavirus cases are on the rise in TN.
After the approval of the medical professionals the state health minister Mr. C. Vijayabaskar announced the appointment of 574 PG doctors (non-service postgraduate) at a monthly salary of Rs 75000. The appointment was given to 665 doctors, 365 lab technicians, and 1230 multipurpose health personnel.
The appointed doctors would be paid a monthly salary of R 60,000 per month. Lab technicians would be paid a monthly salary of Rs 15000 and Rs 12000 would be for multipurpose health personnel.
The appointment of healthcare professionals has been done on a contract basis for 3 months and those appointed are in the process of joining their duty.
The availability of additional healthcare staff has become the need of the hour for the purpose of treatment and management of the Coronavirus patients. It is now said that these appointments have been made as a part of phase-2 of the additional appointments.
It must be remembered that in phase-1 the TN government had recruited 9000 medical professionals and these include 530 doctors, 4893 nurses, 1508 lab technicians, and 2715 health inspectors. The burden of the doctors, nurses plus other health personnel would be reduced by these new appointments and this was as per some senior officers belonging to the state health department.
Moreover, the treatment for the patients in TN would become better by more medical professionals. Local outsourcing agencies have been utilized by the health department to appoint medical professionals as per the requirements. It is now brought out that additional staff would be hired as and when required.
