The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended allotting 11-digit cell phone numbers.

TRAI has recommended the usage of 11-digit cell phone numbers in place of the presently used 10-digit cell-phone numbers.

Presently, when contacting a cell phone with a 10-digit number from landline connections, one needs to use ‘0’ (zero) as the first dial number.

TRAI has informed that changing over to the 11-digit cell number format will make it easier to allot numbers to the new connections.

With the booming trend of lots of additional cell phone users each passing day, TRAI has recommended this procedure to allot sufficient new numbers.

With the recommended 11-digit numbers, it is possible to allot 1000 crores cell phone numbers! Out of this, even if 70% is used in India, 700 crore numbers will still remain balance for an allotment!
