Steep reduction in vegetable prices in Chennai!

For the 2nd day in operation since the shift of the wholesale vegetable market to Thirumazhisai, 4000 tons of vegetables have reached the new wholesale vegetable market in 225 lorries today (Tuesday, 12th May).

The new wholesale vegetable market in Thirumazhisai commenced operations yesterday (Monday, 11th May).

On the 1st day, as 4000 tons of vegetables reached the new market, the vegetable prices came down by 50%!

On the 2nd day today (12th May), another 4000 tons of vegetables arrived in 225 lorries.

With this arrival, carrot, which was sold at Rs. 40 per kg, is now being sold at Rs. 20 per kg. Tomato, sold at Rs. 10 per kg, is now being sold at Rs. 10 to Rs. 15 per kg. Onion is sold at Rs. 25 per kg, okra (Vendaikkai or lady’s finger) at Rs. 25 per kg, and brinjal at Rs. 15 per kg.

At the same time, the number of retail traders visiting the market was lesser as compared to the 1st day!

With the arrival of substantial quantity, the prices of vegetables have come down.
