Various precautionary preventive measures are being undertaken by the Tamil Nadu State Government to prevent the spreading of the raging coronavirus pandemic! Accordingly, in the 1st Phase, the lockdown was imposed from 25th March to 14th April. All shops except those selling essential items were to be closed during this period. Further, restrictions were imposed on the citizens moving out of their houses.

However, as the public did not observe these regulations properly, the number of persons confirmed with coronavirus infection has been increasing each passing day.

Especially, as compared to the rural areas, the impact of the coronavirus spread has been more intense in urban areas such as the Chennai Metro City! So, the lockdown has been extended until 3rd May. Despite all the above measures, the spreading of the coronavirus pandemic HAS NOT BEEN BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL!

In this scenario, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister conducted a review meeting on this situation with the health and Medical Experts. Subsequently, 100% lockdown conditions were to be imposed in Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai for 4 days (from 26th April to 29th April), and for 3 days (26th April to 28th April) in Salem and Tirupur local administration.

During this 100% lockdown imposition, only the very essential activities will be permitted. During these 4 days, the shops which had been permitted to open until this will not be allowed to open!

Nevertheless, the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale fruits, vegetables, and flower markets were allowed to function with some restrictions. Mobile vegetable and fruit shops were allowed to function. However, all the other shops were to be closed.

In this situation, as 100% lockdown is set to be imposed from tomorrow (Sunday, 26th April) for 4 days, the Koyambedu vegetable market Traders Association has announced that 4 days closure has been declared for their shops.

So, the shops in the Koyambedu wholesale market will not be open from tomorrow until Wednesday. However, wholesale shops will function.
