Contact tracing has been effective in TN and Chennai

Every day, we would have seen the heath workers belonging to the Corporation visiting our houses and asking details about fever, cough, breathlessness etc.
This elaborate exercise of contact tracing is a success in TN. It is now believed that this contact tracing is proving to be a powerful strategy tool to contain Covid-19.
In late March, a women working in a mall in Chennai tested positive for Corona virus and this created panic. This led to team of doctors forming many teams in TN. It is revealed that the alert from Covid-19 lab set the wheels of massive 10000 member contact investigation network in motion.
Important piece of information is contact tracing is a combination of basic health work and old school investigation involving teams belonging to the health, corporation, revenue, municipality and police etc. Various works of this team includes tracing of mobile numbers, identification of primary and close contacts and issuing advisory for quarantine, screenings etc.
As per Mr. T. Sundararaman, health expert and former dean of TISS, there are number of patients without known contacts. He spoke about the community transmission that is a fact of life. He concluded that trained community volunteers and angawadi workers would be highly efficient in contact tracing process.
