About 15 days back, CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority had launched home delivery of vegetables and fruits from Koyambedu market.
Latest news is atleast 600 tonnes of vegetables and fruits have been delivered to the customers at their door steps from the Koyambedu wholesale market in Chennai. Information gathered is the prices of these veggies and fruits have been fixed already at the Koyambedu market.
It is known that MMC or Market Management Committee is maintaining the Koyambedu market under the aegis of CMDA. The sources have now confirmed that out of 600 tonnes around 100 tonnes of veggies and fruits would have been delivered at the door steps using applications like Zmato, Swiggy, Dunzo etc.
An official belonging to MMC mentioned that fruits were delivered only through food delivery app. Point to be noted is combination packet of fruits and vegetables sold for Rs 200 to Rs 250 could last a family for 4 to 5 days. Mini vans have been utilized to deliver the rest of the deliveries across CMA.
The dedicated mobile numbers were made available for the people of Chennai and the number has been used to book the orders. It was mentioned by the sources that daily 120 to 150 calls were received for the supply of vegetables.
On a daily basis through 20 to 40 vehicles, anywhere between 20 tonnes to 30 tonnes are being delivered. It must be noted that each vehicle supplies many localities of CMA.
The dedicated team belonging to MMC takes orders from the people through phone calls and then the veggies and fruits are sent through mini vans etc. After the extended lock down time period ends on 3rd May, MMC is not sure about continuing this door delivery supply of veggies and fruits. State owned cooperative societies might take over this service from MMC.
