Till now, the hand sanitizers used for washing the hands have been effective for just few minutes of time because they get evaporated fast.
The latest news is researchers belonging to the Department of Nano Science and Technology of TNAU, Coimbatore have developed a sanitizer. This sanitizer has got effect that could last for 25 minutes. Sounds incredible right!!
Dr. A. Lakshmanan, professor and head of the Department of Nano Science and Technology expressed his happiness regarding the product developed by him and his team.
It is worthy to mention that a team of postdoctoral researchers led by Dr. Lakshmanan under the guidance of VC, Mr, N. Kumar, have worked hard to develop hand sanitizer with the same ICMR formulations. Fact is the he and his research team added nano-absorbents to the hand sanitizer.
Dr. Lakshmanan later revealed that these nano-absorbents were extracted from natural source and they absorb the sanitizer components and release slowly. By this, the sanitizing effect would remain the hands for longer time. He added that once a person washes hands with the sanitizer and touches a surface even after 5 minutes then the pathogens could get killed. Important point is this hand sanitizer is also an alcohol based one and all the ingredients were according to the standards of WHO.
