Increase in the number of containment zones in Chennai

Municipal administration minister, Mr. S.P. Velumani on Tuesday, 21st April 2020, mentioned that the Chennai Corporation had set up as many as 112 containment zones in areas where the residents have tested positive for corona virus. It must be noted that in the last few days Chennai Corporation have been releasing data on the containment zones keeping the number at 84. The number of containment zones in Chennai has increased from 84 to 112 now.
The minister later revealed in the interaction with the reporters that the containment zones in other urban places of TN were 273 and by this the total number of containment zones in urban areas was 385.
Information gathered was more than 15,000 workers belonging to the Chennai Corporation have been visiting the 20.19 lakhs houses in Chennai. These workers have been getting information about the symptoms of Covid-19 from the residents is known. In the containment zones in Chennai, the workers have been advising the residents regarding the prevention of spread of Corona virus.
It was later brought out by Mr S. P. Velumani that rapid testing kits were being used to test the residents belonging to the containment zones. Point is priority is now given to front line staffs like doctors, sanitation workers, conservancy workers etc in testing for Covid-19.
