Just few days back, the central government grabbed many eyeballs when it allowed the sale of non-essential items through e-commerce platforms.

The latest news is on Sunday, 19th April 2020 the centre reversed its decision and had stopped the sale of nonessential items through e-commerce platforms.

It is well known that whole of India is now under lock down to prevent the spread of Corona virus. It is important for the people to follow social distancing at this point of time. To avoid crowding at the shops, the government gave permission for essential items like groceries etc to be sold online.

It must be noted that many online e-commerce platforms have stopped the delivery of those items that were ordered before the lock down period.  It was earlier said that from 20th April there might be some relaxation in the lock down. On 15th and 16th April, the centre also announced about e-commerce platforms that would be allowed to deliver the items from 20th April onwards.

It is important to mention that items like mobile phones, TVs, Fridge, laptops, desktops, ready-made garments, items for school kids etc would be sold online from 20th April onwards as permission was given to sell these items through online.

As per Mr. Ajay Bhalla, home secretary, the earlier order that was issued by the centre has been reversed now. There would be sale of essential items only now and others would not be sold online. It is known that Mr. Ajay Bhalla took over from Mr. Rajive Gauba last year as home secretary.
