The news that has come out is the Corporation of Chennai has banned food distribution inside 2 km radius of containment zones, corporation hospitals, Covid19 testing centres, government based tertiary care hospitals and designated private hospitals as directed by High Court of Madras.

On Monday, an order was issued and Corporation Commissioner of Chennai Mr. G. Prakash mentioned that NGOs and other organisations would not be allowed to distribute food inside 2 km radius of hot spots that include corporation hospitals, testing centres and designated private hospitals. It must be taken into account that the order was based on the directions given by High Court.

Many neighborhoods are present within 2 km radius of the hospitals and it is now said that NGOs and other associations who want to distribute food to the residents in these neighborhoods would not be able to distribute food but they have to hand over the food to the corporation officials. These officials would then distribute food after testing the food.

Point is zonal officers must be informed 48 hours before in other places and foods would be distributed only after the food safety departments gives permission to the place. Information collected is preparation must be in the same zone and food distributed within a time frame.

It was brought out by the civic officials that the order was to prevent NGOs and voluntary associations from directly distributing food to any resident as all the residential places in Chennai were located inside 2 km distance of a corporation hospital or inside 2 km distance of Covid-19 testing centre.
