For the last one week, NTO Kuppam near Tiruvottriyur has been buzzing with many activities. The workers have been erecting electricity poles, installing overhead cables and fixing electricity meters etc.
It is worthy to note that the maintenance staffs of Tangedco have been involved in giving finishing touches to the new tenements belonging to TNSCB at Tiruvottriyur.
For the sake of accommodating migrant labourers, health workers and stranded travelers, TNSCB is getting more than 1000 tenements in Chennai ready now. As per a senior officer belonging to TNSCB it is clear that many doctors and nurses residing at the Chennai outskirts and providing treatment for Covid-19 patients do not want to go to their homes. Point is they want to stay within the Chennai city and due to this it was proposed to get ready new tenements for GCC to use this facility.
It must be taken into account that the board had completed to construction work in NTO Kuppam near Tiruvottriyur and KR Park in Periamet on war footing. The board has provided electricity and water connections to the tenements. Presently, many migrant labourers and other homeless people were housed in temporary shelters without enough personal distancing. This was according to am official of slum board.
