Coronavirus echo: Girivalam banned in Thiruvannamalai!

It is a tradition for the devotees to undertake �girivalam� (A trip by foot around the hill of Thiruvannamalai , one of the most famous temples of Lord Arunachaleswarar and His Consort Goddess Unnamulaiamman  especially on the day of �Full Moon� (Pournami in Tamil and Poornima in Hindi/Sanskrit).

However, the whole world has been reeling since the last 3 monthsunder the deadly impact of the coronavirus pandemic which has spread far,fast, and wide throughout the globe! All the countries and the citizens have been sunected to encounter extreme hardships.

Lockdown is in effect several countries, including India, where it has been imposed for 21 days from 25th March to 14th April.

As such, public movement is totally curtailed!

In these circumstances, the Collector of Thiruvannamalai District has decided to ban the devotees undertaking �girivalam� on the ensuing Full Moon day. This is necessitated as a preventive action against the coronavirus pandemic spread!
