Recruitment through TNPSC examination to fill up vacancies by GCC

Till now, GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has been selecting the candidates through district employment exchange to fill up the vacancies.

In future, GCC would be filling up the vacancies through TNPSC or Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Examination. In the November 2019 council meeting, a decision was made regarding the selection of candidates by this new procedure. On Thursday, resolutions made were uploaded on the corporation website.

At present the corporation of Chennai has got as many as 805 vacancies for various positions. It must be taken into account that corporation commissioner of Chennai, Mr. G. Prakash is the special officer.

Information revealed now is the vacancies in its medical department would be filled up through state medical services commission. It is known that till recently the vacancies for the post of engineers were filled up through the employment exchange.

Point is in other parts of TN various vacancies are filled through TNPSC that conducts exams in a systematic and professional way. As per the corporation it is clear that whenever vacancies arise TNPSC fills up in a phased manner. It was mentioned that the civic body did not have the similar type of infrastructure to conduct examinations. Another method by which corporation fills up its vacancies is through appointments on compassionate grounds.

In the corporation, there are now around 100 vacancies for the assistant posts, 98 posts for AE (civil), 83 posts for license inspector, 53 posts for typists and 35 posts for wiremen etc. The resolution added that there are 90 vacancies for the sanitary inspector cadre.
