Just similar to the tracking of cab or food delivery services on the app, people who call 108 (ambulance service) would be able to track the movement of the ambulance. This was according to the state health minister Mr. C. Vijaya Baskar. To avail this facility, the callers would have to call from Avasaram 108 app.
It has been brought out by some experts that ambulance service has been getting many prank calls. Point is this app would reduce this prank calls issue plus it would keep the callers reassured about help. High number of ineffective calls could put lives in danger. It must be noted that when someone would need the help of ambulance services badly, the emergency services personnel would have been attending the prank calls.
Just 2 calls out of every 5 calls that the call centre at Teynampet receives is for medical emergency. This was as per performance data of the emergency service. Truth is one in 5 calls has been a repeat call to know about the time it would for the ambulance to reach the spot etc.
As per Mr M. Selva Kumar, GVK-EMRI state head, it is clear that by letting the people track ambulance assigned to them they would be kept calm. He added that it would also reduce the number of repeat calls to the service centre. It was in 2017 Avasaram 108 app was launched and till now this app has been detecting the location of the caller. Less than 5 percent calls that call centre gets are from this app.
