Elcot IT Parks in TN to be constructed by PWD

Normally, private companies would be involved in the construction of IT parks etc but this might change.
News is the construction contracts of two proposed IT parks of ELCOT in cities like Trichy and Coimbatore would be awarded by the state government of TN to PWD or Public Works Department.
It was announced by the Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of TN, Mr O. Paneerselvam in the budget that due to increase in demand for IT space, ELCOT would develop IT parks in Coimbatore and Trichy.
In the future, Trichy would have a 1 lakh sqft IT Park and Rs 40 crores has been allotted for this. In the same way, in Coimbatore 2.5 lakh square feet IT Park would be developed and Rs 100 crores have been allotted. In the first week of February 2020 in the secretariat, a top-level official meeting took place and it was decided that PWD would be involved and not private construction companies in developing IT Parks in Coimbatore and Trichy.
It is clear that a GO would be issued regarding this. This meeting saw the presence of IT secretary, PWD secretary and managing director of Elcot. It was later revealed by a source that the idea of handing over the construction of IT Parks to PWD was taken by the chief minister of TN.
It is known that PWD has been involved in the construction of many government buildings, hospitals etc and hence PWD is now well equipped to handle the construction of IT Parks.
