Google has announced that it is stopping the free Wi-Fi facility provided so far in 400 Railway Stations in India.

One of the globally most popular companies, Google, entered into an understanding with India’s largest public-sector undertaking, Indian Railways in the year 2015.

Accordingly, it was announced the scheme of providing free Wi-Fi at 400 important Railway Stations in India.  This scheme is being carried out until now.

In this scenario, Google has announced that it intends to stop this.

One of the Vice-Presidents of Google, Caesar Sen Gupta, shared regarding this: ‘The price of the mobile data is even less than the price of 1 GB throughout the world. Further, the network speeds and features keep advancing technologically. It has become increasingly easier to use mobile data.

As per a recent survey conducted by TRAI, it is established that on an average, an Indian uses 10 GB data per month! So. we have decided to stop the free Wi-Fi facility given so far in Indian Railway Stations. This ‘Google Station Plan’ will be closed globally during the year 2020. Following the huge success of this free WiFi in India, we provided a similar facility in countries such as Brazil, Soth Africa, Nigeria, Thailand, Philipines, Mexico, Indonesia, and Vietnam. We are stopping this facility in these countries as well!’

Meanwhile, Railtel has informed that it will continue with the free Wi-Fi service not only at the 415 Railway Stations (which was provided by Google) but also a total of 5600 Railway Stations in India!
