Property Tax reduction: to be uploaded in the website

Posted on: 28/Dec/2019 11:17:23 AM
Greater Chennai Corporation officials informed that the full particulars of the revised Property Tax are being uploaded on the official website and this activity is in progress right now.

During the Financial Year 2017-18, the Property Tax was revised upwards by 50% for the residential constructions and 100% for the non-residential constructions.

Subsequently, a lot of maloperations occurred while implementing this. Hence, the State Government of Tamil Nadu cancelled the upward revision of Property Tax, It further announced that property owners can pay the Property Tax as per the old rates.

After the announcement of the upward revision of Property Tax, the Greater Chennai Corporation has set the target of collecting Property Tax up to Rs. 1200 Crores from the 12 Lakh property owners in the Chennai Metro City.

However, since this upward revision of Property Tax has been withdrawn as explained above, this target mentioned above has been reduced.

In this situation, property owners have been paying the Property Tax in the Greater Chennai Corporation Zonal Offices as per the old Property tax rates.

However, for the Property Owners who resort to online payment of Property Tax, only the upward revised rates of Property Tax are on display. This has led to confusion among the online user to pay Property Tax.

An official from Greater Chennai Corporation shared regarding this issue:

The activities of implementing the corrections after the withdrawal of the upward revision of Property Tax are in progress. This activity is expected to be completed in another 2 days. Once this is completed, Property Tax can be paid online as per the old rates.

So far, a total Property Tax of Rs. 758 Crores has been collected.
