From the ticketless travellers, MTC collects fine of Rs 16.8 lakhs

Are you one amongst those who travel in the Chennai MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses without a ticket? Don’t feel happy because you would be caught and penalised by the checking inspectors soon.

The latest news is MTC has collected an amount of Rs 16.80 lakhs from those who have travelled without ticket.

It was mentioned by the managing director of MTC Mr. Ganesan that the Chennai Corporation had collected a total fine of Rs 18.80 lakhs from as many as 10,971 passengers for ticketless travel in the MTC buses for over three months. This was said in a release on Tuesday.

An amount of Rs 500 is collected as penalty from those who travel without a ticket or necessary concession passes. In the month of May, corporation collected Rs 6,00,850 from 3,915 passengers and in June the corporation collected Rs. 5,24,100 from 3,658 passengers. As a penalty for the ticketless travel, the corporation collected Rs 5,55,900 from 3,218 commuters in July.

Under the Motor Vehicle Act, travelling in buses without bus ticket is a punishable offence and this was as per Mr. Ganesan. It must be noted that from May to July the total number of passengers fined for ticketless travel by MTC were 10791 and the corporation collected a huge amount of Rs 16,80,850.

Information is more than 21000 employees work in MTC and in the week days this MTC operates as many as 3300 services. Just few weeks back, MTC added 235 new buses to its fleet and made many commuters happy is known.
