The DMK head M. Karunanidhi has said that the only reason his party pulled out of the UPA is the ruling government’s failure to support and put forth its amendments to the UN resolution against Sri Lanka. The US-led resolution is expected to be brought forward in the UNHRC on Thursday.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Karunanidhi said, ‘I saw Mr P. Chidambaram`s statement wondering what happened in the interim period of the evening of March 18 and morning of March 19, in a section of the media. Everybody knows about my meeting with the three union ministers for more than three hours on March 18. Mr. Azad had told newspersons that his demands would be conveyed to the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi. But there was no report in any section of the media the next morning that the UPA government would accept the DMK`s demand on incorporating a probe into war crimes by Lanka by an independent international Association and incorporate it in the US resolution… The next day we only got information about the amended version of the US resolution which did not contain anything castigating the Lankan government. We also learnt that there was no opportunity to incorporate our demands into the diluted US resolution.’
