The news that just 39 candidates have been selected from the state of Tamil Nadu for the civil services has been the topic for discussion for many now. Civil services include IAS, IPS etc and it is now said that this is the lowest performance by the aspirants from Tamil Nadu in the last 10 years of time.

On Friday, 5th April 2019, UPSC or Union Public Service Commission announced the final results. The important piece of information collected is Mr. Rishab CA of Madurantakam in Kancheepuram district who was ranked 223rd is the TN state topper. It is important to mention that Rengina Mary Verghese who got 49th rank is now second in TN and Mr. V. Abhishek who got 79th rank is 3rd in TN.

Working for rural development is the main priority and this has been confirmed by Mr. Rishab who is the topper from TN. This Rishab is a 26 year old former IT engineer and has been trying to crack the civil services examination for the last 3 years. He has cracked civil services exam in his third attempt now.

It must be noted that Mr. Rishab got selected for Infosys through campus placement and worked there for one and half years. Later he quitted his job as he wanted to do something for the people by entering the public service. Mr. Abhishek who came third from TN is also an engineer by profession. This 25 year old Abhishek now wants to be associated with health and education of the people.

The point is every year the state of TN has been producing more than 100 civil servants. In this year this number came down to just 39 and is highly disappointing. The experts have been attributing this to fewer vacancies this year. In the year 2018 there were as many as 759 vacant posts and in 2017 there were 990 vacancies.

It is superb to mention that in 2018 as many as 42 candidates from the state of TN cracked UPSC and got selected. On 3rd June 2018, preliminary examinations were conducted and about 6.5 lakh candidates appeared for the examinations. From 28th September to 10th October in 2018, main examinations took place.

Interview or personality test was held from 12th February 2019 to 28th March 2019 and as many as 1994 candidates were shortlisted for the interview is known. Out of the total 1994 candidates, 120 candidates belonged to the state of Tamil Nadu.
