A new system of cable TV charges is being implemented from day-after-tomorrow, Friday, 1st February. Until now, the customers were paying a monthly fixed amount to watch TV. Now, doubts have arisen as to how to proceed with the revised system.

Actually, a new system permits the customer to select the preferred channels and pay for those channels only every month. As per this, it has been mandatory for the cable TV operators to provide 100 free channels to their customers. A basic monthly charges of Rs. 130 and the 18% GST charges. There is no need to pay any separate charges for watching these channel. Apart from this, Doordarshans 25 channels are also included in this package of 100 free channels.

Apart from the above 100 channels, the customer needs to pay for the additional as channels as preferred and selected. Some of these channels have been allowed to charge a maximum of Rs. 19 per month to the customer. The respective cable TV service provider will decide on the 1st 100 free channels to be offered. If the customer prefers to watch any additional channels, each additional 25 free channels will be charged an addition of Rs. 20 per month.

Though a maximum of Rs. 19 has been fixed for the paid channels per month, some of the channel owners, keeping the public appreciation as a priority have chosen lower monthly charges such as 10 Paise to 50 Paise! However, some of the channel owners who own multiple channels have fixed 2 kinds of rates one for all channels from them another on the individual channel telecast by them.

For the customers who do not need any paid channels, the monthly charges shall be Rs. 130 and an additional 18% GST.

The customers will be given the list of channels available by the cable TV operators. They can select the free 100 channels and then the preferred paid channels. This rate will be applicable to the cable TV service providers as well as DTH suppliers.
