From December, GPO in Parrys, Chennai to double up as passport centre also

People living in Chennai would have been familiar with the GPO or General Post Office that is located at Rajaji Salai at Parry�s corner. This GPO was inaugurated in the year 1884 and since then it has become one of the important landmarks in Chennai. It is now revealed that this heritage structure GPO would have the Chennai city first Post Office Passport Seva Kendra from the month of December. It is clear that this GPO would facilitate the scrutiny and processing of passport applications and people living in many parts of north Chennai would get benefited.

Mr. R. Anand is the postmaster general of Chennai city region. He spoke about how at the facility about 50 applications would be processed in a day. It must be taken into account that at present passport applications are processed at Passport Seva Kendras of Regional Passport Office, Chennai in places like Aminjikarai, Saligramam and Tambaram.

People belonging to places like Arani, Ranipet, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur etc could feel happy that head post offices in these places are also finalised as centres and these centres would soon offer passport services under the Chennai region. There are as many as 12 passport sevas in the state of Tamil Nadu and everyday as many as 675 applications are scrutinised.
