It is well known that stop lines are marked on the roads to make the vehicle drivers to stop when approaching a particular intersection controlled by traffic signal. Many drivers have been violating the stop lines in Chennai city and this has been creating many problems. The news that has come out is the traffic police have stepped up their drive against stop line violations in Chennai city.

At a traffic signal in the famous Venkatanarayana Road in T. Nagar, the traffic police played their role and caught as many as 10 motorists who had crossed the stop line. These 10 motorists were fined an amount of Rs 100 each by the traffic police. More than the fine amount that was collected the message sent to these motorists was very important and this was confirmed by a police officer. It must be noted that between the months of May and June as many as 9500 motorists were booked by the traffic police and 20000 were penalized for this offence in this year. It is now said that the motorists at the T, Nagar signal started falling in line now after noticing the crackdown. It is amazing to mention that few motorists who crossed the stop line reversed back.

A senior traffic police officer spoke about how the drive against stop line violation would be intensified and how crossing the stop line causes major confusion among the motorists and leads to road rage etc. Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC have been asked by the traffic police to paint fresh stop lines wherever these stop lines have faded out.
