In the newly created website by the state government of Tamil Nadu facilitating to ascertain the quality of the canned drinking water, 1014 companies have registered so far.

The trading of canned drinking water has grown up immensely to be one of the major trade ventures. Most of these companies depend on the groundwater as their main source.

By drinking the highly polluted water containing excessive copper, iron, aluminium, and chloride, the people are likely to be affected by the complaints such as vomitting, high blood pressure paralysis, and harms for the bones in the heart and kidney.

However, keeping the profit in the business as the only priority, some traders do not really care for the drinking water sold by them and take advantage of the public demand by supplying highly polluted drinking water. There have been many complaints that poor quality canned drinking water is being sold even without obtaining the proper licence for the same.

In this situation, in an effort to create transparency and trust among the consumers, on behalf of FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India), a new website has been created: www.safewater.fssai.gov.in.

With this, the public can have direct access to know about the quality of the drinking water supplied.

The companies supplying canned and bottled drinking water have been registering in the above website.

An official from the state government department of food safety shared in this regard that there are around 1319 companies selling canned drinking water with the licence given by FSSAI in Tamil Nadu.

Out of this, 1016 companies have registered their details in the above website. FSSAI has emphasized that the balance companies must also comply by registering on the website. Accordingly, the officials of the department of food safety in each district have been campaigning explaining the importance and the necessity to register in the above website.
