The Chennai Metro City Corporation to implement the rainwater drainage link system at Rs. 7 Crores

The Chennai Metro City Corporation has initiated activities for linking the rainwater drainage system to the residential areas/homes where it had not been done at a cost of Rs. 7 Crores in the areas under its domain.
The Chennai Metro City Corporation is maintaining 7351 rainwater drainage systems for a total length of 1894 km. Further, the activity of installing new rainwater drainage system for the recently merged sections is also in progress.
After the floods in 2015, a detailed analysis was undertaken regarding the existing rainwater drainage system. During this review, it was established that though the rainwater drainage system had been installed in certain places, they had not been properly interlinked.
Subsequently, the Chennai Metro City Corporation undertook the work for linking the unlinked parts of the rainwater drainage system. The corporation has planned to complete this activity at a cost of Rs. 7 Crores. Tenders have already been floated for this purpose.
